Visnjan Observatory (Tican)

Visnjan is a small picturesque place in Istria, just 15 kilometers away from Porec. This is not the place we visit in search of the beaches and charms of the summer. Nevertheless, Visnjan is visited by numerous travellers, individually and in organized groups, throughout the year. The main motive for visiting Visnjan is not fun and cheerful though this place is entertaining and delighting many – it is the Observatory of Visnjan. The basic motive for renting apartments, rooms or holiday homes in Visnjan is science. This is the place for all lovers of mysterious distances and stellar heights. The Observatory in Visnjan was registered in 1992, and the main area of ​​activity of this institution is the small bodies of the Solar System and their correlation with the Earth. Asteroids, comets and meteoroids are studied here. In the Visnjan Observatory discovered over 1420 asteroids, but this is not their only field of action. The Mission of the Astronomical Society Visnjan is the education and motivation of children, teachers and parents with an emphasis on talented children. That is why the Visnjan Observatory gates are open to all and always. Individual visits are not required to be announced, while those groups ones are announced at the info@astro.hr email address. In 1998, a new Observatory Tican with a metric telescope Dagor was opened on a nearby hill 3 kilometres further.
