If you want to see change and mixing from one historical period to another, you do have to visit the city-fortress Galesnik. It is situated above Jelsa, 210 meters above sea level. From the Greek-Illyrian Tower Tor towards east the ruins of this city-medieval fortress are lying in the landscape. The city is 20 meters wide, surrounded by walls, and it was built on the ruins of Illyrian and Roman buildings. The fortress was the refuge of the noble family Slavogost Gales in the Middle Ages, who were the rebellions against the Venetian rule. This geographical site is interesting with its magnificent view of Jelsa and the surrounding villages, the island of Brac and the Makarska Riviera. You can reach it by a simple walk from Jelsa, passing through lavender fields and olive groves by the paved old Roman road, up the hill. Bath in a scent of lavender and discover magical history of this island with a great offer of comfortable accommodation.
