Summer House Cindro Podstrana

There is a large family house in Strožanac along the main road of Podstrana, built in Dalmatian style, with stone facades and narrow window frames. It would be just another of the similar houses which can be found everywhere on the Croatian coast if the property on which it was built didn't buy family De Cindris, nobility from Split in the 15th century and built their summer residence here soon. It would be just another mansion of noble families from the time of the Renaissance if the building did not have a defensive role, and according to the urbanistic principles of that time, the fortress of the Benedictine monastery remained in the northern part of the yard, with the loopholes visible today. The Summer House Cindro in Podstrana was upgraded in the 19th century, with the family coat of arms, carved in stone transferred from the Split residence of the Cindro family, and placed over the front door of the house. There were numerous concerts of chamber orchestra and opera held in the summer house even back in that time, and the tradition continued today.
