St. Ivan Fortress in Šibenik is one of the four medieval fortifications in Šibenik. This one was renovated and revitalized in the year 2022. If you rent accommodation in Šibenik, you will quickly notice the fortress that dominates with its size over the other fortifications, situated on a 120-meter-high hill north of the city center. There was a church of the same name here once, on the remains of which this Šibenik beauty now stands. It was erected in 1646 in just 58 days of August and September, as a strong defensive point against Ottoman attacks. Perhaps that is why the Turks never set foot on the soil of Šibenik. It remained an unconquered challenge for attackers from the east, while the blueprint for the fortress was created by the builder from the west, the Genoese friar Antonio Leni, and the fortress was built by the diligent hands of the people of Šibenik. Stone by stone, it withstands the attacks of time and centuries. From Šibeniks Poljana, it takes about 10 to 15 minutes to walk up narrow streets and stairs to St. Ivan. Up there, above the city, beneath high walls, the view opens up to the Šibenik islands. To the south, it extends all the way to Rogoznica and Primošten, and to the north, it reaches Vodice and Tribunj. The view is unforgettable. The renovated St. Ivan Fortress in Šibenik has been transformed into an educational center and campus with classrooms and dormitories, a place for networking and creation, a place that connects and inspires.
