The land on the islands is private due to numerous islanders from neighbouring islands and land, mostly from Murter, colonizing Kornati in the past and lived in a kind of nomadic way of life. They would move to the Kornati for certain months of the year and because of cattle-breeding and fishing. That is way today we have a Kornati house and a Kornati ship, shepherd's homes and bays, and there are Illyrian fortifications, although the first finds indicate that this area was inhabited before them, even in the Neolithic era. Although there are no permanent settlements on this island, apart from camping and accommodation in private rentals on Kornati, the islands are famous for top gastronomic offer in restaurants of mentioned anchoring bays. Fresh seafood specialities and indigenous Dalmatian cuisine in the wild surroundings of the open skies of the islands, is an unforgettable pleasure that mourns the hordes of visitors every year.
