Are there any prettier garnish than a child's smile, the sound comparing to the joy of the child's voice, the movement than a clumsy and the more deft children's footsteps? Is there a nicer place than the city that becomes a child every year in June, despite the centuries that it carries on the rocky clothes of its streets and squares. The last week in June is reserved for the International Children's Festival in Šibenik. The festival is what turns the city to a playground and brings the song and changes all the gray walls into colorful dreams, with the brush of the child's imagination and all those who are happy to return to carefree days of childhood. MDF Šibenik is the Festival for children and about children, but also for adults because everyone carries a child within, playful and cheerful, a child who, in the days of the Festival, once again takes his first steps in Sibenik, remembers children's songs, enjoys everything in the world, stay surprised and believes in fairy tales. The International Children's Festival in Šibenik has been held here for more than 50 years and has hosted numerous artists from all over the world who give their talents to children through play and laughter, performances, workshops, art installations, music and everything praising imagination and happiness. Apartments, rooms and holiday homes in Šibenik are full in the days of the Festival, and the city is supremely beautiful, colored with smiles and delight. The program is traditionally taking place in several locations in the old city center, and the main stage is in the front of the Cathedral of Sv. Jakov, where the Festival is opening by raising the festival flag with the hymn "Zdravo, maleni (Hello, little ones)", by the unforgettable Sibenik`s Arsen Dedić. And as a verse from that song, "everyone has a friend, have one as well, from the east or from the south, or from all the sides", the Children's Festival in Sibenik promotes equality, and learns children to friendship, reminding their parents too of the beauty of solidarity and empathy with people of all ages, nations and races.
