A tiny island which is going to draw your attention if you are staying in Punat on the island Krk is named Kosljun. Just a few hundreds meters from the shore, that small island has only 6 acres of land and a few meters above sea level, but it`s rich and diverse vegetation make it exeptional among Adriatic island jewels. Black ash, laurel, holm oak and other green fellows are luring you with its irresistible scents and calming colors. There is a small boat from Punat to Kosljun departing every 15 minutes and if you take that challenge, you could find many of 540 species of plants and 151 species of mushrooms that are counted on this tiny island along the time.
Birds song is going to welcome you at the small port of the island and it will accompany you through carefuly decorated paths, all leading to Franciscan monastery from 1477. It is the place where all valuable historical artefacts are stored for centuries, telling you stories about life of fisherman and peasents used to be. Francisians are carefuly guarding over 30.000 of books in their monastery, with Ptolomeus atlas from 1511., printed in Venice, one of three in the world, among them.
The Benedictines are known as a humble and a hardworking Franciscan order, so it is no wonder that Kosljun represents the motto "pray and work". The front door of their monastery is marked with their motto "Peace and Good" written in Glagolitic script. Same letters you can find on souvenirs which you can take with you for little money. But the memory of this green fragrant oasis will be priceless.
