Dragon eye Rogoznica

What happens when reality is intertwined with the legend, when Dragons open their eyes, and you close the door to the daily routine, you'll find out it if you rent an apartment, or a room in Rogoznica and the surrounding area. Driving along the Adriatic highway, about 40 km away from Sibenik towards Split, you can turn right at the center of Rogoznica, a picturesque small town with even more attractive bay. Peninsulas of Rogoznica, embracing sea waves as open arms. One penninsula is the place for the historical center of Rogoznica while the other peninsula Gradina keeps a secret, the one of which many stories are told, and many legends whispered. Gradina is a lake which is the unique hydro-phenomenon, not only in the Adriatic, but also in the Mediterranean. The lake has 5300 square meters and is surrounded by rocks 4 to 24 meters high. The tide changes indicate an association between the lake and the sea, which is only a few tens of meters of porous limestone. However, the eye of the dragon has its specific micro system whose operation is not extensively explained jet. The water in the lake is 15 meters deep and divided into two layers, the lower anoxic (oxygen-free, rich in sulfur compounds) and upper oxic. These two layers are separated by a thin layer of purple bacteria, which is so dense that leaves the complete darkness beneath. From time to time, in circumstances which are still unknown, it happens a sudden mixing of two layers of water and, unfortunately, even the death of flora and fauna of Dragon eye. The last such lake boiling has taken place in 2011. This phenomenon has led to a number of legends about this lake, like that famous after which it was named. According to this legend, on the island of Smokvica near Rogoznica lived Murin the dragon. He protected the inhabitants of the surrounding area, but at a bloody price - each one of the longest days of the year obtained a new bride, the most beautiful girl in the area, who never survived the first wedding night. The young Aristoles hero, the great-grandson of Argonaut Jason, was in love with the girl who was to be sacrificed. He challenged the dragon to a duel and mortally wounded him. The dragon Murin, dying, dug his own eyes, and threw an eye away, one behind the island of Mljet, while the other has melted the stone under his feet. That's how Dragon eye was created. There is also a myth that two lovers who bath in the lake will be blessed with eternal love and with healthy children. Come to Rogoznica and discover other myths and legends of Dragon eye and swim in the stunning lake for eternal love!
