You hired an apartment in Omis and want to spice up your day at the beach with some of the cultural events. No problem! Since 1986, Omis City Museum is located at the entrance to the old town. The Museum consists of exterior and interior on the ground floor. Thus you'll be able to see the ancient stone monuments with descriptions in the courtyard of the Museum, while inside you can see historical and archaeological exhibition that bears witness to the rich history of Omis and the surrounding area. The most important monument in the Museum is the one from the 1st century which is the stone inscription in Latin dedicated to the emperor Claudius. In addition, there are also archaeological finds from the time of Emperor Tiberius and relief plaque of Christ's resurrection from the 6th century, along with many other stone reminders of the passage of time. From ancient times through the Middle Ages, the Museum takes you on a walk to Poljice Republic, significant creation in these areas whose independence lasted from the 13th to the early 19th century, and Napoleon's occupation. Popovac house in the next street operates as a part of Museum where you can see works of art relevant to Omis district. Museum is open from Monday to Friday from 8 to 11 and 12 to 15 hours, but visits are possible even outside working hours by appointment.
