Omis is a town at Dalmatia, at the mouth of the river Cetina, and it belongs to Splitsko–Dalmatinska County. It is 21 kilometer southeastern of Split.
Total population of Omis is 15472 inhabitants, according to population census from the year 2001.
As it is a town, it has a solid number of hotels. But it also has other type of accommodation, such as a few camp sites, and numerous private apartments and villas for rent. During the summer season it is crowded with tourists as its location is ideal for many activities, such as rafting, paragliding, para-sailing, and also in the nearby are a few spots where tours go diving to see remains of sunken ships. Hotels are with wellness offer, but there are also some isolated wellness offers so even tourists who are not hotel guests could enjoy it.
Gastronomic offer is great, and in one of many restaurants you can try domestic delicious, or have any meet meal. Pizzerias and fast foods are also everywhere for those who are in a hurry between sightseeing so don’t have time to sit and have a long dinner at some restaurant by the sea.
It is a town of rich history and far away is well known by its pirates which acted on this area. At the end of each summer season in Omis is held pirate battles, which are simulation of how it was once in a past. That is very attractive and interesting for all who are able to watch.
Some sights which would be very interesting to visit and observe are Fortress Mirabela, Fortress Fortica, Franciscan Monastery, Church of St. Petar, Church of St Roko, City museum, Omis old graveyard, the medieval town core, Pillar of shame and the old city lodge and many other very interesting sights.
