Cathedral of St. Jakov in Šibenik adorns all history and art books since primary school and few people do not know about this stone beauty, even if they have never been here and rented an apartment, room or holiday house in Šibenik. This, of course, is not surprising because it is the most magnificent architectural work built in the 15th and 16th centuries in this area. When we add to that statement the fact that the construction of the Cathedral lasted for more than a century (from 1431 to 1536), that fact becomes as solid as the stone from which this beauty was built. Several architects worked on it, and the most important names are Nikola Florentinac and Juraj Dalmatinac, whose statue adorns the square in front of the Cathedral. The years of construction influenced the stylistic diversity, with the most pronounced styles being Gothic and Renaissance. We can thank Juraj Dalmatinac for the wreath of heads for which the Cathedral is famous. It is not known who the characters are, but it is assumed that they are portraits of his contemporaries. From the magnificent dome, through the stone cornices and apsea to the foundation, the Cathedral of St. Jakov in Šibenik was built using the special technique - it is made of the stone only, without binders. It has been under the protection of UNESCO since 2000.
