Bračak Castle near Zabok is a place worth visiting if we have booked accommodation in Zabok or the surrounding area. From the center of Zabok, we will drive about 3 kilometers southeast, across the river and the Bračak Bridge, to the castle built in 1889 by the Kulmer family. After World War II, it was converted into a hospital, which closed in 2007. Four years later, the restoration of Bračak Castle near Zabok began. The restoration went beyond mere renovation, as modern lighting and heating techniques were used to make the castle more energy-efficient. Today, it rightfully carries the title of the Brčak Energy Center, as well as the nickname "the smartest building in Croatia". It uses 90% of its energy for maintenance and operation from renewable sources and also serves as an educational center for entrepreneurs in the Zabok area and beyond.
