Zabok is a small town in northwestern Croatia, about 40 kilometres from the centre of Zagreb. It can be reached quickly by highway, even though the city already falls under the Krapina-Zagorje County. The city of Zabok includes 17 settlements and a little less than 9 thousand inhabitants. It was first mentioned in the 14th century, and since then it has grown into an important traffic junction on the way from Slovenia to Central Croatia and the sea. Once synonymous for a strong textile industry, today it is an economically active area with a number of important companies for the Croatian economy. Tourism has never been significant here, yet you can find comfortable accommodation in apartments, rooms and holiday houses in Zabok still. The motive for the stay can be the proximity of Zagreb, Krapina and numerous picturesque places in Zagorje with an excellent offer of autochthonous cuisine and significant cultural manifestations through which the tradition of the Zagorje region is nurtured. There are two faculty institutions and numerous sports and cultural organisations operating in Zabok. The surroundings are decorated with castles, and one of them is located at the very entrance to Zabok, which can be a good starting point for exploring the historical and nature treasures of Zabok and its surroundings.
