Days of Antun Dobronic in Jelsa

Days of Antun Dobronic in Jelsa are held every summer, from 20 July to 20 August. "Nights of Antun Dobronic" are named after the renowned Croatian composer whose works is dedicated as well. Dobronić was born in Jelsa in 1898 and died in Zagreb in 1955. In addition to his works, works of other Croatian composers are performed here as well at that time. The musical and drama program provides a great place for amateurism, whilst the literary program especially cherishes Chakavian poetry of the island. The venue is the most beautiful and picturesque St. John's Square. In Jelsa and in the Parish Church of the Assumption. Dobronic`s statue, the work of the sculptor Slavomir Drinkovic, stands proudly in the middle of the park, one of the most distinguished of Dalmatia. Chamber music concerts are performed at the event, and beside them, you can accompany a variety of literary programs, presentation of books, folklore, music-drama, and drama facilities if happens for you to stay in one of the private apartments, rooms or holiday houses in Jelsa at the time.
