Have you ever been to the place where the starfishes spawn? There is a beach on the island of Zlarin in the Šibenik archipelago, a beach that, apart from the swimmers, is loved by the starfish that lay their eggs in the sandy shallow waters. If you find accommodation in Zlarin or you are just passing through in discovering the beauty of the Dalmatian islands, find a beach on the edge of the village which overlooks the island of Lupac and the town of Vodice in the distance. The coastline of the pebble is dispersed in the sand in the sea, and almost every stone you take out of the sea carries a tiny starfish, a star that will jet reveal the mysteries of the sea depths. There are over 1700 species of starfish in the world, and although its name is star-fish, it is not a fish at all. None of the Adriatic species is dangerous, so the starfish, although a sea predator, is a marvelous adornment of marine landscapes to us humans. The starfish are fascinating sea creatures, invertebrates, without the brain and blood vessels, yet perfectly adapted to life on the seabed. Of all the fascinating features of the starfish, the most amazing might be its capability of recovering lost body parts. They eat crab meat and shellfish. Zlarin beach with the starfishes can be reached through the pine forest and the path through the blackberry shrubs. The pebble beach is loved by families with children who are entertained by discovering the starfish in the shallow waters and eating the blackberry around the beach, and on the rocky stretch of the beach it is easy to find a place for intimate enjoyment in the sea. The sun rests here all day so it could give to the rest of the swimmers a true spectacle in the evening - an unforgettable sunset in purple shades above the islands of the Šibenik archipelago. Then the sea stars disappear beneath our feet to ignite those heavenly and take us to the new day of enjoyment in a holiday on the beautiful island of Zlarin. (We will just observe and enjoy the beauty of the starfish, not hunt and dry it. We'll leave the beaches as we have found them - clean.)
