Vukovar Water Tower symbolizes the resistance and suffering of the people of Vukovar during the Homeland War. If you choose affordable accommodation in Vukovar, the water tower will welcome you with its modernly renovated and equipped interior, showcasing the hospitality of Vukovar residents and guiding you to its 50-meter-high observation deck. On the ground floor, there is now an amphitheater with 100 seats, a café with a playground for kids, and the tower itself features memorial stairs, a room, and an observation deck with a capacity of 70 people. The Vukovar Water Tower began functioning as a reservoir for Vukovar, Vinkovci, and Borovo in 1968. It was heavily damaged during the Homeland War. Despite the siege and constant shelling, the Croatian flag always flew atop it, thanks to Ivica Ivanik and later Hrvoje Džalto, who risked their lives to raise it, encouraging their fellow citizens by doing so. Since 2021, the Vukovar Water Tower has joined the international alliance of great towers, alongside the Empire State Building in New York, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, and Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
