Vučedol Culture Museum in Vukovar is a museum that preserves unique archaeological remains of the Vučedol culture from the Bronze Age. Affordable accommodation in Vukovar means traveling through millennia to the Vučedol culture, specifically to the history of several thousand years before Christ. The Vučedol culture connects the areas of present-day Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Hungary, but it extends across 13 European countries where traces of the extinct Vučedol civilization have been found. During those times, Asia was discovering writing, and the states of Mesopotamia, Egypt, and China were emerging. Vučedol was technologically advanced, especially in the field of metal processing, and it is known today that the first bronze in Troy came from Vučedol. The museum was originally opened in 1972 in the former post office building, and in the middle of 2015, a new multimedia museum was opened, located 4 kilometers downstream from Vukovar, on the Danube banks, at the site of the archaeological site that now sits on the museum roof! This way, the museum seamlessly blends with its surroundings and has become one of the most significant attractions in the eastern part of Croatia.
The museum boasts a rich collection of archaeological exhibits, including ceramics, metal objects, jewelry, and weapons. The most famous exhibit in the museum is the Vučedol Dove, a ceramic figurine of a dove found in Vučedol. The Vučedol Dove is one of the most famous archaeological artifacts in Croatia. The Vučedol Culture Museum is divided into several exhibition halls. The first hall features an exhibition about the Vučedol culture, where visitors can learn about the history and culture of this civilization. Other halls contain exhibitions of individual archaeological exhibits. The Vučedol Culture Museum in Vukovar is a popular tourist destination for visitors from all over the world.
