If you rent an apartment, a room or a vacation house on the island of Brac, you will certainly visit the Zlatni rat (Golden Horn) in Bol, the most famous sandy beach on Brac. With your feet buried in the warm sand of the beach, you will look at the shining blue sky. There is a peak driven into the broad cloak of blue, which is the highest point on the whole Adriatic. It is Vidova gora (Vid mountain), which rises 778 meters above sea level. It is commonly thought that Vidova gora was named after St. Vitus, but the name dates back to the time when gods walked the earth, and the old Slavics named their God of war Svantevid. Svantevid had four heads, thus could reach the globe overlooking far on the four different sides of the world. So it's not surprising that Vidova gora got its name upon him. If you reach the peak, you will win the power of the Svantevid, and maybe if the weather is realy fine, you'll drop your glance on Italy. You can reach the peak of Vidova Gora by a car descending from the main road somewhere between Nerezisce and Praznica, but you can also walk up there. Vidova Gora has a very gentle climb, and the tame slopes, cut into the Mediterranean landscape through low and aromatic vegetation and rare pine forests, are also suitable for those in poor physical condition. Be sure you have enough fluid, you have adequate footwear and sun protection. At the top you will find a tavern where you can search for a ridge and take a look at the old Illyrian fortress and the remains of the old Croatian chapel Sutovid, which is one hundred meters below the top. Do not let the beaches of Brac get you enchanted and capture you by the sea, visit Vidova Gora and find the spirit of Svantevid, it will give you the power to remember the beauty of Brac forever.
