Ucka Nature Park extends over 160 km square near Kvarner Bay and the beautiful places of Opatija Riviera. If you find accommodation in Lovran, Ika, Opatija, Rijeka and other scenic settlements of the Adriatic north, you have the opportunity to visit a unique place where the clouds of mountain peaks are kissing the foam of seaweed. The uniqueness of the geographical position gave Ucka the amazing power of plant and animal species preservation along with the lush forest vegetation. Ucka Nature Park includes Ucka Mountain and a part of Cicarija. The highest peaks are Vojak 1401 meters and Veli Planik 1272 meters. According to current knowledge, Ucka has over 1300 different species with numerous endemic species, due to which this is the most important area of biodiversity across the Europe. It is estimated that only 40 % of the area is explored until today. Inventions also point to continuous human activity in these areas back to 13,000 years. The preserved remains are a cultural phenomenon narrating myths about surviving on the slopes of this beautiful mountain through the activities of livestock, farming and forestry, in a coalition with forest fairies and giants. Human activity was limited in 1999 when the area was declared a park of nature. Sports and recreational activities like hiking, mountain biking, free climbing, flying and various races are still being fostered. If you want to climb to Vojak, the highest peak of the Park, look for the paths Poklon - Vojak, Vela Ucka - Sedlo - Vojak, Mala Ucka - Sedlo - Vojak, Lovranska Draga - Mala Ucka - Vojak. You will find a tower at the top that was built in 1911 as an observation tower overlooking all over Istria, Kvarner with the islands, Gorski kotar, Velebit, Alps and neighboring Italy. The tower is info centre today, and additional guarantee that you will never forget Ucka. You can find additional info on +385 (0)51 293 753 or park.prirode.ucka@inet.hr.
