Ubli or Uble is a small village on the island Lastovo in the archipelago of Split. According to the population census from 2001., it has just 218 of permanent residents. The number of inhabitants is decreasing, probably because Lastovo is one of the most distanced Croatian islands. It is well connected with the mainland, especially Ubli, since it is also the ferry port and the harbor, connecting Lastovo with neighbor islands Korčula and Hvar, as well as with Split. The ride from Split lasts about 4 hours with ferry and an hour less with catamaran. Arrivals and departures of ferries and catamaran in Ubli determine bus schedule, connecting the village with the rest of the island. Most of Ubli`s residents live from the incomes of the tourism today. That fact doesn’t surprises since Lastovo is one of the most beautiful Croatian islands, surrounded by 46 islets and rocks, having 46 churches and fields, almost all cover by tick pine forest. In the year 2006. it was pronounced as another Croatian Nature Park. Although Lastovo is inhabited for a few thousands of years, it never reached economical growth as other islands, thus it is an oasis with no commercialization. Since, before Croatian independence, it was an isolated area with military infrastructure of former state, it is experiencing tourist revelation in past twenty years. Ubli offers cosy and peaceful private apartments and rooms in magical and unpolluted environment. Archaeological findings in Ubli from ancient Roman empire and early Middle ages, testify of the attractiveness of this picturesque bay from antiquity. Gastronomy offer is based on home-grown products rising from traditional ways of farming in extremely ecological conditions.
