It is difficult for anyone to rent an accommodation in Rijeka or in the surrounding area without visiting Trsat, the most famous part of town, where the whole story about this wonderful Adriatic town had started. Trsat is a castle and a former settlement which was mentioned for the first time in the late 799th. However, the Trsat castle originated from prehistoric times when it served as an observatory. In the first half of the 19th century, it was bought by Count Laval Nugent and renovated for a family mausoleum. Trsat is a place that will bring you back in the past and launch into the future, a place worth visiting, walking through and a place worth skipping those 561 stairs from the center of Rijeka to Trsat. Take a look at the Rijeka University Campus on Trsat and the Park that was designed according to the project by architect Zlatko Prikril and horticultural engineer Josip Kulfanek. Park offers a unique opportunity to discover indigenous herbs in one place, and some of the Mediterranean aromatic plants can be found in delicious meals offered by Trsat restaurants known for their diverse and interesting culinary offer. There is one of the oldest Croatian shrines on Trsat - the sanctuary of Our Lady of Trsat - according to tradition, it was born in 1291, when the angels built a Nazareth cottage in this place. For seven centuries from that time, pilgrims are visiting this place from all over the world, and the culmination of worship is on August 15th at the Feast of Our Lady.
