Town Museum Kastel Luksic

Regional Town Museum Kastela was founded in 1988 as the first such institution in the Kastela area. The museum was initially functioning as a Studin Gallery whose entire fund consisted of sculptures by Marin Studin that were transferred in 1983 from Split in sculptor`s birthplace of Kastel Novi. Gallery actually gets the status of a local museum in 1992. Other Museum collections were set up back than: Archaeological, Cultural and historical, ethnographic and collection of modern art, which includes the initial gallery fund. Archaeological department is of the utmost importance for the Museum due to the many historical sites of the area from Roman age. The museum is located on its original site by 1999, then moved to the castle Vitturi in Kastel Luksic. Vitturi castle is a 15th century building which was built by the brothers Vitturi, whose descendants inhabited the fort until 1943, when the building gain public purpose. Today, the Museum has also pedagogical and Restoration department, counting exhibition and publishing in its activities as well.
