Starigrad-Paklenica is a small town and port on the coast of the Velebit Channel, very close to the national park Paklenica, and about 45 kilometers south of Karlobag. The town was first mentioned in Roman times. Today is the center of the Paklenica riviera, which has 20 km long coastline. Accommodation could be found in hotels, just as in private apartments too. Starigrad-Paklenica is a starting spot for tours to national Park Paklenica. As mountain Velebit is so close, it’s a special feeling to look at it while you are swimming in the sea, almost just under Velebit. It is highly recommended that you visit already mentioned national park Paklenica, and also the Church of St. Petar, ruins of Vecka Rock and basilica of St. Juraj.
Paklenica is Croatian national park. It is settled at Velebit, on the southern side, just above village Marasovici. It is separated on Velika and Mala Paklenica (Big and Small Paklenica). The highest tops of Paklenica are Vaganski vrh (1757 meters) and Sveto brdo (1753 meters). Zadar is the closest town to Paklenica. You can take a tour to Paklenica from Starigrad-Paklenica, but also and from other sides. It has status of national park since 1949. It is specific as on such a small area could be found so many endemic species, some very rare plants, and famous Velebitska degenija. It offers many objects which are very interesting to the tourists, beside the pure nature. One of them is Paklenica mill, which is during the season open everyday from 8am till 7pm.
