Split Airport is one of the most important transport points of Dalmatia and southern Croatia at all. The Split Airport was opened in November 1966 and the traffic is only increasing since, with the exception of two years of the early '90s when it was closed during the Homeland War. The increase in traffic has conditioned the expansion of the Split Airport capacity. The works have started in 2009, and the extension is ongoing in a few phases over two years. The final phase is planned for 2023-2025. As many as 2 million and 818 thousand passengers passed through the airport in Split in 2017. Many of them were staying in one of the comfortable apartments, rooms or vacation houses in Split and surroundings or have moved along to the islands or to the southern parts of Croatia. Although it bears the name of the biggest Dalmatian town, the airport is not in Split, but in the 25 km distant Kaštel Štafilić in the northwest. It is only 6 kilometers away from Trogir, which is why the airport is the second busiest in the country with quite crowded in the summer months. From Split to Split Airport you can get easily by public transport, with bus lines 37 and 38 or direct line departing periodically from Split Ferry Port. The airport is surrounded by parking lots, and there are shops, catering facilities, rent-a-car, and other agency services available. The landing over Split and its archipelago is an unforgettable experience, and the port connects Split with all major European destinations. Have a pleasant flight
