Spačvanska šuma (Spačva Forest) is the largest sedge oak forest in Europe. Affordable accommodation in Vrbanja, Vinkovci, Županja, Vukovar, or Ilok will host you within easy reach of this forest wealth of which otherwise golden Slavonia is proud. Unlike the golden wheat fields, Spačva is an endless sea of greenery. It covers an area of 40 thousand hectares. To understand this size, we will also say that the Plitvice Lakes cover 23 thousand hectares. The huge forest community of sedge oak was once a real jungle. It is somewhat more cultivated today, the wood industry is strong here. However, we can still find oak trees older than 800 years in the Spačva forest! These are impressive specimens that can grow over 50 meters. If you find an apartment or holiday house in Vrbanja or elsewhere, ask in the destination for guidance or a boat ride on the Danube through the forest expanses of Spačva.
