Škrapa is a popular word in Dalmatian dialect which means sharp stones, most common for those surrounding land of an island or the ones following the sea line. The word here, as a part of the name of the race, vividly suggests the character of it: it is the race over sharp shore stones. It was first held in 2006 with 200 something racers, whilst today it counts maximum of 1200 contestants. It takes place in Pasman, the island near Zadar, in March. It leads many athletes, amateurs, sports lovers, their families and media, on the island. Thus it is necessary to check-in and book accommodation early, so you would not miss one of the most exciting events on the central dalmatian islands. The original intention of the vent was to encourage islanders in sports and healthy living, but it grown into an international race in three categories: Ultra - for experienced athletes up to 40 km; Challenger - for beginners who like to explore their limits up to 20 km; Light (Đir) - for those who are important only participate up to 10 km. Actually, skraping is trekking race and it takes you into the world of salt, brambles and gulls, all over the two municipalities of the island, Tkon and Pasman. Contestants will spot attractive locations with the astonishing view on Kornati islands. Thus, this sports event becomes touristic attraction with Skraping, one of the most appealing and interesting races in Croatia. Skraping is no harmless, though. Running all over sharp stones, broaching the thicket, jumping over ravines and searching for local trails, are challenges which few trekkers and adventurers can resist.
