Sailors Ball Jezera

Sailors Ball Jezera is just a part of the naval heritage on the island of Murter in the Šibenik archipelago. Anyone who stayed in private apartments, rooms or holiday houses in Jezera, must have felt that deep connection between the sea and the local people, love, affection, in happiness and suffering. The Sailor's Ball was the way to forgive to the sea the taking away, to take care of the families of the missing sailors. At the beginning of the 20th century, people of Jezera founded an association for the assistance of families of the casualties at sea, and one of the ways of funding assistance was the Sailors Ball. The association was shut down over time, but the tradition was preserved and revived in the 70s of the last century. Folklorist from Jezera, Nenad Milin has explored the history and set the Sailors Ball on stage in cooperation with KUD "Koledišće". In essence, the manifestation is the farewell party for sailor's departure on the sea, and it is played several times a year in Jezera.
