Račić Mausoleum Cavtat

The most famous Croatian sculptor, Ivan Meštrović, was to blame for the most impressive work of art in Cavtat, a small town near Dubrovnik. Meštrović has told us the most fascinating story about human life, by stringing sequences in white stone of island Brač alone. There is no other material used in this small, yet great, building, with just door and bell in bronze. Mausoleum is made upon an order of family Račić, local shipowners and wealthy man. It is raised in 1921 on the place of St. Roko church from 15th century. It is recognizable by imposing circular dome with two caryatids on the entrance. Interior is fraught by meaning with the sealing all carved with heads of angels. The bell which is made upon Meštrović drawing, speaks: `Get to know the secret of love and you'll solve the secret of death and start to believe in the eternity of life´. And that is the reason why you should not miss this place in case you have rented an apartment, a room or a vacation house in Cavtat; maybe you are the one to reveal the secret of love and to believe in invincible life, after all.
