When a person types `Porat Croatia` in a browser, he/she could be quite surprised of the great number of Porats in Croatia. Actually, the word `porat` means `harbor`, so it doesn’t surprise that many small harbors, along the coast and on the islands, share that charming name. Porat on the island Krk is a small fisherman harbor located on the Croatian biggest island. Krk is connected with the mainland by a bridge and it is the island with the biggest airport, thus excellent connections bring a great number of tourists on this beautiful Dalmatian pride through the whole year, not just in the summer peak months.
Yet, Porat somehow managed to avoid that rush and noise. It is still the peaceful village as it used to be fifty or hundred years ago. It is not unusual that you spot an animal, like cow or sheep, in the center of the place. People of Porat are still living mainly from the incomes of fishing. Accommodation can be find solely in private houses, where kind hosts offer their clean and silent apartments and rooms. Porat has few excellent restaurants well know for their fresh fish specialties all over the island Krk.
Monastery from 17th century and the church of St. Magdalena from 16th century are keeping artifacts significant for understanding Krk`s history as well as its present. The pebble beach in the center of the village is not the only place for swimming and summer joys there, although it has an astonishing view on distanced island Cres and towns Rijeka and Opatija, one can’t ever forget.
