Čiovo is the picturesque island near Trogir, and it has long been known as a prominent tourist destination and the island of beautiful beaches and a rich entertainment life. The tourist pulse of the island covers those tame and quiet places of interest here on the island which does not live only in the summer months and whose forested and rocky slopes have been inhabited since prehistoric times. Ciovo is well connected to the mainland with the bridge that allows easy access for personal and passenger vehicles. It is its vicinity to the land and natural beauty causing crowds in the summer months. However, it is less known that the island is even more beautiful in spring or in autumn, and that the winter is gentle to the shores of Ciovo. But our ancestors knew it, as well as the Glagolitic priestesses who built the Sanctuary and the Church of Our Lady of Prizidnica near Slatina in the 16th century. The Sanctuary of the Mother of God and the Church was raised on a rock above the misty sea surface, among green pines and Mediterranean aromatic herbs. Stiff stone stairs along the agave plantation are leading to this place. The church was built in 1546 and restored in the 18th century, as evidenced by stone inscriptions on the facade. The interior of the church is hiding a fascinating relic - a picture of Mother of God with Child from the famous painting school in Crete from the 14th century. If you have rented accommodation in Ciovo, visit this fascinating place and its idle ghosts of the past with the reverence of the present times. It is also a place for pilgrims from all over the world, mostly outside of the main tourist season. Four times a year, believers are coming to show their appreciation to the Mother of God - on Holy Monday, Easter Monday, Mary's Day, and December 8 on the Feast of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception.
