Osor – Museum town on Losinj

We can say that the whole town of Osor is the open-air museum today. Where ever you go, you'll find traces of the rich history that goes way back to Roman and Byzantine. There is no street, a house, a wall, with no some noblemen's coat of arms or a piece of stone ornament from ancient times built on. In addition to fragments of monumental walls, the remains of ancient villas, Renaissance portals and monasteries, in fact, almost all of Croatian most significant artists (Ivan Mestrovic, Fran Krsinic, Marija Ujevic and others) left their artwork in Osor in the form of some sculpture. The most famous sculptures are those of prominent composers Jakov Gotovac, Stjepan Sulek, Franjo Krezma and others.
This ancient town Osor is situated at the junction between islands of Cres and Losinj, and was an important crossroad of ancient inland and maritime paths. Due to its geographical position, Osor has such a rich history. A new cathedral, Bishop's Palace, Town Hall and the Church of St. Gaudencije was built in the 15th century among the city walls. The acoustic space of the cathedral becomes a unique scenic area of traditional music event called "Osor Music Evenings". This event is held since 1976 in the period from late July to early August, however, if you rent an apartment in Osor or destination in this period, you will enjoy the harmonious union of musical notes and noises of summer evenings on the island.
