On a crossroad of directions towards Zadar, Šibenik and Knin, grew a small, but attractive town. Just 12 kilometers up from the mouth of river Zrmanja, it’s riversides carry the hearth of this town with just about 1100 inhabitants. The history brings it in 14. century as one of the traffic centers of merchant roads of that time, and it was till just recently. Construction of modern highway from Zagreb to Dalmatia, left it out the main route, but still easy to find for all of those who do not want to miss the beauty of this pearl of Dalmatian inland. Settled in the place where the canyon of karst river beauty Zrmanja, one of Croatian Park’s of nature, slightly amplifies, below the two Velebit’s notches, it represents not only the crossroad, but the clamp of two Croatian regions; Lika and Dalmatia. Habitants were primary occupied by transportation and livestock farming, due to the lack of cultivated soil, but today, Obrovac employs their residents mainly in factory of motor boats and hydroelectric power plant. As one can see, Zrmanja has labeled the way of life in Obrovac, as well as it’s tourist offer. Beside lodging in hotel, there are more than few holiday apartments available with all the comfort of small urban area. Lying on the river beach and bathing in the greenish sweet water, along with the sightseeing of Obrovac’s historical monuments, is not the only things to do here. Go kayaking, rafting or canoeing down the Zrmanja, with professional lead or without it, visit paintball center near Obrovac or attractive rural husbandry where you can participate in rural olympic: traditional contests of throwing a stone from your shoulder, pulling the rope, jumping in bags or bowling, and you’ll find Obrovac magical as it is.
