Military tunnel on Dugi Otok

Military tunnel on Dugi Otok in the photo is one of three tunnels on the island where warships and submarines were once hidden. All the tunnels are located in bays outside the towns of Božava and Dragove, and you can easily find them even if you rent accommodation on Dugi Otok elsewhere because they are now a true tourist attraction and a specialty of the islands coast. They were built by the JNA - Yugoslav Peoples Army, after World War II to protect Zadar in case of armed conflict. Later, many planned different functions for the tunnels, but to this day, they remain only reminders of the senselessness of warfare and an intriguing feature that attracts many to venture into the dark waters of the tunnels. The military tunnel on Dugi Otok in the photo is long and 10 meters deep. Similar tunnels also exist on the island of Vis.
