If you rent an apartment, room or vacation house in Pomena on Mljet, you will find yourself in a few steps from the magical National Park Mljet. From the centre of Pomena to the Malo jezero (Small lake), which is part of the park, it is only 200 meters of unusual walks through the paradisical landscapes of Mljet. A small lake is located in the north-west of the island, separated from Veliko jezero (Great lake) by a canal that is only 30 meters long. The channel is a half-meter deep and ensures a constant change of water in the lake that, depending on the tide and the oceans, penetrates the lake with stronger or slower flows. The lake has 0.25 square meters of space, and 29 meters in its deepest part. Due to all these characteristics, it is considered to be sa lagoon, and because of its morphological and biological properties, it is among the natural world phenomena. The channel connecting Malo and Veliko jezero is called Mali most (Little Bridge) and here is one of the rare pebble beaches on Mljet. The beach is ideal for swimming with children, and the rich marine world is ideal for observing and admiring of all ages. Out of the many sea species, the Aurelia jellyfish is particularly noted, whose diameter can reach 55 centimeters. Jellyfish lives on larger depths of the lake, it can rarely be noticed on the surface. If you notice it, you are the lucky one, do not be afraid, it is completely harmless to people. Aurelia is special for having separated from its relatives 24 million years ago and continuing its own development, and her closest relatives live in the sea lake on the island of Palau near the Philippines.
