When you want a vacation away from all city streets, the noise of cars, their sirens and annoying city stale air, plan to rest in peace and quiet Velebit canal, in a small village Lukovo. Lukovo is located 90 kilometers souther of the town Rijeka, and you can get there with local road that leads only 3 km from the Adriatic highway.
The town is named after the church St. Luka which was built 1772., while today's version of this church was formed in 1842. Interesting history of this small town, with just 50 houses, can be considered large and significant because it dates back to Illyrian times and on the nearby hill Klis were found the remains of prehistorically structures. If we sail out only ten minutes from Lukovo, the nearest sea road will take us to the steep cliff with prehistoric drawings. All other heritage treasures are preserved in the treasury of ethnographic museum which you can see on the peninsula, not far from the center.
Lukovo is full of small, magical lagoons, which have preserved their full natural beauty, because of the fishing ban in this area. But sport fishing is allowed, and its lovers can fully enjoy experiencing it, due to ideal natural conditions created in Lukovo.
Romantic connection of barely touched nature and the pastoral beauty of Velebit mountain, will impress you at first sight and despite a small number of accommodation facilities, friendly hosts and a beautiful natural diversity will leave an indelible mark in your memory.
