Lokvarsko lake is an artificial reservoir near Lokve in Gorski Kotar. Affordable accommodation in Lokve means exploring the natural richness of this region, which includes this lake, although it is an artificial one, created by the construction of a dam in 1955. Since then, the lake has become part of the natural environment and home to numerous bird species nesting along its shores. Lokvarsko lake was once called Omladinsko Lake because it originated from the youth work actions of the former socialist state. During its creation, one village was submerged, and its residents were relocated, as well as a part of Lujzijana, the road that Napoleon built to connect the coast with the mountains. Lokvarsko Lake is inhabited by various fish species, making it a paradise for anglers. In 1973, the world largest trout, weighing an impressive 25 kilograms, was caught here. An active holiday in Lokve begins and ends at this place, surrounded by enchanting forested areas and numerous hiking and recreational trails.
