When you first come to Kaprije, you’ll be amazed by the total absence of noises, your ears are used to, living on the mainland. It is one of the most distanced inhabited islands of the archipelago of Šibenik, yet, with good traffic connections with the mainland and other islands. It has boat and ferryboat connection, ride lasts for about an hour, few times per day, through the whole year. Kaprije has just 143 permanent residents, most of them older than 50 years. But in summer time demographic picture drastically changes and the number of inhabitants increases more than just a few times. Many people from Šibenik and famous tourist destination Vodice have their vacation houses on Kaprije. There are no hotel or camps, but one can find comfortable apartment or room to rest in quiet easy summer nights. One store with no lack of fresh fruit and vegetables, few restaurants and bars and crystal clean blue sea reflecting diamond rays from it’s sandy bottom. There is one sandy beach with a bar in the village, and there is more than 25 kilometers of seashore around the island for you to investigate and find a small beach or cove for yourself. Southwest shore of island hides a bay where Kaprije lives in summer time. It is a part of island with seaport, berths for numerous yachts visiting Kaprije from May till October, vacation houses, store and most of Kaprije’s tourist accommodation and gastronomy offer. If you decide to climb uphill to the center of the Kaprije, with little stone houses stuffed one into another, wells and old church, you’ll feel like you are in some Fellini movie on Sicily. And that’s what makes Kaprije unforgettable!
