Kanfanar is one of the most vivid municipalities and the town in southeast part of the biggest Croatian peninsula, Istria. It has 600 something people living there, whilst the whole municipality has about 1500 of residents dispersed in twenty smaller settlements. Kanfanar is close to the Adriatic Sea; Limski canal with famous sea shell breeding sites is eight kilometers away, and the Mediterranean climate determines the economy of the community. Thus, in the year 1991, experts could find only six specimen of this autochthon farm animal. With the great effort, Boskarin was saved from extermination.
Besides this, in Kafanar you can visit Dvigrad, Middle age town, and numerous sites in surrounding, witnessing of the long Istrian culture and tradition. The net of narrow local paths can take you to the ancient times, in hamlets where people are still tendering the old fashion ways of life. Yet, modern highway can in a half of hour, can take you to Slovenia, Italia or further. Pula with its airport is 28 kilometers away and picturesque Rovinj just 17. Welcome!
