Hvar is a town on the same name island. Its name comes from Greek name Pharos, as it was Greek colony in the old past. It is located on the southern side of the island, facing the sea. As it is on the island which is in the middle of the Split archipelago, connections with mainland lead to Split mostly. Ferry lines from Split to the island Hvar mainly leads to Stari Grad which is about 13 kilometers away from the town Hvar, on the other side of the hill. But some ferry lines from Split lead directly to Hvar. Today, Hvar is an important tourist destination in Croatia.
Total population of district Hvar is 11500 inhabitants. The town is located right in the zone of Mediterranean climate, and main characteristic of it is clear, blue sky, mild winters and hot and sunny summers. That kind of climate rise Hvar above mediocrity and uniformity, what makes it desirable and to others hard to achievable phenomenon.
Annual average of the sunshine is 2726 hours per year, and maximum was reached in the year 2003 with 3053 hours. Benefit of the area is also the sea. An average monthly temperature of the sea, even in five months (June-October) is above 20 degrees Celsius. Often happens that the maximum value of sea temperature exceed 27 degrees Celsius.

Gastronomic offer of Hvar will charm you. Many restaurants are located just by the sea, offering fresh fish and other seafood, with light domestic Dalmatian music playing in the background, or sometimes even discrete local singers sing at the inside of the restaurant, and all guest are always charmed by that experience.
Sport, wellness and all kinds of recreation could be found all over Hvar. Also, since a few years ago, Hvar became a spot for elite tourism, so that gives added value to it as a tourist destination.
