Drvenik is part of the magical Makarska Riviera and it is 30 kilometres away from the town of Makarska. Apart from its impressive development in tourism, Drvenik is also the important transport centre; it is a ferry port where from ferries depart for the islands of the Split archipelago such as Hvar, Brac and Korcula. Drvenik is first mentioned in the 13th century. The population lived mostly in Gornji Drvenik on the slopes of Biokovo, and only after the earthquake in 1962 they moved to the shore. Since then, Drvenik occupies two coves, Donji and Gornji Val, where many houses, apartments, guest houses and villas were built.
There are around 480 permanent residents, but the destination has 1600 beds, mostly in comfortable apartments and rooms in Drvenik whose windows are always open overlooking magical beauty of the coast. You can choose to look at the infinite blue or the mighty Biokovo mountain that looks like a caring mother watching over the entire Makarska coast. On the hills north of Drvenik, the remains of the Drvenik tower are visible, where the inhabitants defended from the Turks, with the defensive walls from the 17th century. In Gornji Drvenik there is still the Gothic church of St. Jura, whose oldest part dates back to the 15th century. Tombstones are built in its walls as a reminder of the time of pride and glory before the marvels of the beaches beneath Biokovo have been discovered. Drvenik is a pleasant place for a quiet holiday today with beautiful bays and sandy beaches and a luxurious gastronomic offer.
For those more dynamic, Drvenik offers a break after exploring the picturesque Makarska Riviera at night or the unshakeable Biokovo in a daytime.
Accommodation capacities are in private apartments. Most of the apartments are very close to the sea, and you can enjoy in natural beauty where sea and mountain are connected, as cliffs of Biokovo are almost in the sea. Drvenik is ideal for family holidays, as it is peaceful and small, but has all what you need for perfect vacation.
