Đakovo Cathedral

Đakovo Cathedral is one of the most beautiful religious buildings in Slavonia and Croatia as a whole. It is dedicated to St. Peter, the first pope, and serves as the seat of the Đakovo-Osijek Archdiocese. The cathedral was built in the Neo-Romanesque style, and construction lasted from 1866 to 1882. It measures 74 meters in length, 52 meters in width, and reaches a height of 84 meters. The most striking feature of the cathedral is its dome, which stands at 59 meters high with a diameter of 25 meters. The interior of the cathedral is richly decorated with stuccoes, frescoes, and stained glass windows. The Đakovo Cathedral is located just a few minutes walk from the city center, and behind it lies the lush Strossmayer Park, named after the bishop who initiated the construction of the Cathedral.
