The Croatian Museum of Tourism in Opatija is headquartered in Villa Angiolina, in the central Opatija park. If you are curious about past times and you wonder how people used to spend time on vacation, Villa Angiolina has the answers. Angiolina was built in 1844. It was the first villa in Opatija with a beautiful arboretum of great importance for Croatian horticultural heritage. The villa has been the epitome of hospitality since its construction, and the place of lodging and meeting of the elites of the time. Summer parties on its terraces were famous. Angiolina was the seat of the Spa Committee at the dusk of Austrian rule. It is registered as the first hotel in Opatija. It gains new life in 2007 when the headquarters of the Croatian Museum of Tourism is housed there, with the permanent exhibition "Opatija - the golden beginnings of Croatian tourism". Museum activity is also performed in the Art Pavilion "Juraj Šporer", which is located next to the Parish Church of Sv. Of Jacob in Opatija. If you have found accommodation in Opatija, here you will find valuable testimonies of Opatija's history through unique documents, film records, and photographs. Museum activity is also focused on projects such as the "Kvarner Bathing Heritage" where you can see the bathing areas from the end of the 19th century to the first half of the 20th through drawings, photographs and old postcards of the Opatija Riviera, Senj and the Kvarner islands.
