Cres Museum was founded in 1910. In 1937 it moved to the Gothic-Renaissance palace Arsan which was built in the early 16th century. The palace is also the birthplace of the famous Croatian Renaissance philosopher Frane Petric whose statue marks the entrance to the museum. Cres Museum boasts several impressive collections: archaeological, ethnographic, cultural and historical, numismatic and literary collection. Archaeological collection will take you from prehistoric times to the late Middle Ages; ethnographic will familiarize you with how to survive on the island and traditional costumes; cultural-historical collection will surprise you with the collection of furniture, paintings, liturgical accessories, weapons and coats of arms, some of which date back to the 16th century, while numismatics boasts specimens from the 2nd century BC. The most comprehensive collection is one of the books and printed materials, with specimens from the 16th century onwards.
