The Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb was founded in 1954 under the name of the Gallery of Contemporary Art. The Gallery recorded excellent results and it was confirmed early as a modern type of museum: it participated in XXXII. the Venice Biennale in 1964, where it was invited to present along with some of the 17 most significant museums in the world, and two years later it visited Lausanne with 15 of the most famous galleries in Europe, America, and Japan at the 2emme Salon International des Galeries pilotes. Due to spatial constraints, the Gallery never had a permanent exhibition and this was one of the key reasons for a decision to build a Museum of Contemporary Art (MSU) in New Zagreb which was issued in 1998. The construction started in 2003 and the Museum was officially opened in 2009. It dominates all the roads that run through Novi Zagreb, built at the crossing of Avenija Većeslava Holjevca and Avenija Dubrovnik, on the way of the bridge over the Sava river to Novi Zagreb. At the time of the Gallery, artists, and critics like Victor Vasarely, Abraham Moles, Jesús Raphael Soto, Otto Piene, Julia Le Parc, Zero, and Umberto Eco were gathering in Zagreb, as today it brings together all the famous artists and experts of contemporary art. MSU is not just a museum, it is the center of the entire area of New Zagreb, the institution that participates in numerous events, organizes conferences, projections, education, and presentations. Summer in the MSU is already the traditional event, with many concerts and gatherings held on the roof of the building, with the aim of popularising and promoting different types of art. The exhibits of the museum often impress the children, with the peak of their visit is sliding down at a large slide, which was meant to mark only the opening of the MSU building, but remained there to round up of the concept of the Museum of Contemporary Art - MSU will guide you in a walk through numerous parallel worlds and catapult you back to the reality, completely transformed.
