Čara is small village located on the island Korčula, 25 kilometers far from city Korčula, with population of more then 700 inhabitants who mostly work in wine growing but also in tourism and agriculture. Čara is very well known for its wine cellar where the famous wine is produced. Highway D118 goes through the village connecting it with Vela Luka and city Korčula.When it comes to accommodation in Čara, you can stay at private apartments and pansions.There is beach “Žitna” located in same bay, 300 meters far from the center of the village.You shouldn’t also miss to visit the church of St. Peter built in the 15th century. Attractions of this church are pictures of Jesus Christ with the Apostles made by famous artist Jacopo Bassano and large centuries – old cypress tree in front of the church.There is another one church called “Gospa Carskog polja” built in the 14th century.All these churches prove the rich history of Čara, since first time Čara vas mentioned in 1214 in the Korčula Statute.One of religious activities you can experience is the feast of the St. Jakov on the 25th July, when there is a big ceremony with the procession through the village.
