Today Bribir is a small town placed between Novi Vinodolski and Bakar, up on the hill. Municipality consists of 18 settlements with a total of about 1700 inhabitants. Historians found that Bribir existed even before Christ; there was an old Roman settlement Assessia where proconsul ruled. 14th century was turbulent for Bribir; Frankopan`s castle was built than whose one tower managed to survive until today. Frankopans were Croatian noble family with significant influence in historical events. That was the century when the area suffered an earthquake, hunger and cold. Still, people survived and lead the town to some more glorious times as the center of Bribir`s counts. In 17th century in Bribir was opened clerics school, one of the first of the kind in Croatia. Today Bribir is a place where old traditions are cherished and preserved. Ancient customs like weeding ceremonies, carnival and music can be attended not only during the summer, but in the winter time too. Lodging can be found in private apartments and rooms whose modern equipment cannot hide proud spirit of glorified Bribir. Although Bribir is on a height, 300 meters above sea level, it is quite near to the Adriatic. It is just 6 kilometers away from Novi Vinodolski and 6 kilometers away from Crkvenica. People there are dealing with agriculture and husbandry, enriching thus gastronomy offer making it ecological and healthy.
