Banfi Castle in Štrigova

Banfi Castle in Štrigova is one of the many buildings that have been preserved from the Middle Ages, scattered across the green hills of Međimurje and Zagorje. Banfi Castle in Štrigova is actually located on a hill above the town, in the village of Banfi, which is just over a kilometer from the city center. The castle was built in 1373 by Banffy, the Count of Lendava in Slovenia. Many have later ruled over it, but it is most famous for a love affair. Croatian-Hungarian King Matthias Corvinus fell in love with the daughter of Count Banffy here. Banfi Castle in Štrigova has recently been restored, surrounded by vineyards and orchards, making it an opportunity to enjoy the charms of an active vacation in Međimurje on foot or by bike.
