Solta is an island in the Adriatic Sea. It is located in the middle of Dalmatian archipelago, west of the island of Brac and on south from Split. Coastline of Solta is 73,1 kilometer long. Solta is separated from mainland with Split channel. The highest peak of Solta is Vela Straza which is 238 meters high. It is well connected so it is easy accessible. There are many direct ferry lines from Split. As Split has an airport, that makes Solta even more accessible destination as tourist could easy reach it with a ferry from Split.
Population of Solta is 1479 inhabitants, according to population census from the year 2001. Locals are mostly engaged in tourism and agriculture. The economy of the island is mostly based on olives, vineyards, fishing and tourism. Maslinica is the strongest fishing place at the island. Climate is Mediterranean with hot and dry summer and mild winters. During the summer temperature is often around 30 degrees of Celsius and during the winter minimum is around 10 degrees of Celsius. Tourism is very important for the whole island. The most developed village in tourist sense is Necujam. Accommodation at Solta could be mainly found in private apartments and apartment villages. Recently has been built big apartment village which is one of the biggest in Dalmatia. Gastronomic offer is really good, and if you like fish food in Maslinica you will find many restaurants and tavern with exceptional offer of sea food. Other places on the island also have great gastronomic offer, but Maslinica, as a fishing center, is the most popular of its sea food. Solta is also very interesting for tourists who like to see the sights. There are many localities with old buildings from the very old time like some old fortresses, villas, ruins of city walls and many others.
