Novigrad (istrian) is town located on the western coast of Istria. It's also known as Novigrad Istarski. Novigrad set by the river Mirna, only 2 kilometers away, on the area of 27 km2. It is very close to Italy and Slovenia. According to population census from year 2001, Novigrad has 2629 inhabitants, but with municipal area it has 4002 inhabitants.
Fishing was main branch in Novigrad until year 1960, and then people in Novigrad start to rotate its interest to industry, and agro culture, especially to olive growing and viniculture. Somewhere from year 1970 Novigrad becomes tourist town, with many people employed in that branch.
Today, Novigrad has some hotels, and many private apartments for rent. Also it has a camp, so tourists can choose type of accommodation they like.
It also has rich history. It was there in time of Roman era, and was center of bishopric on the area between two rivers, Dragonja and Mirna river. Today you can see many old statues and sights from the old times of Novigrad.
