Gornji Karin is a village in Zadar’s inland, but still on the sea shore, since the sea is deeply indented in the mainland of this area. ‘Gornji’ means ‘upper’ in Croatian, and it is divided from ‘lower’, apropos Donji Karin, with a karst river Karišnica. There is another interesting small river in Gornji Karin, Bijela, which means ‘white’; both rivers rise in a cave and mouth into the Karin’s sea. On their journey to the sea, they pass through the karst landscape making a great number of small waterfalls and favoring vegetation in the area. Thus Karin’s landscape is refreshing and wonderful, with beautiful Mediterranean forests, giving to a guest a sense of freedom and relaxing all of his senses. Few old watermills on the flow of these rivers, makes walking, running and hiking on the ambient tracks even more interesting. Gornji Karin has 895 of permanent residents and many vacation houses. Even natives from nearby cities like Zadar, cannot resist nature beauty of this area with both; hills rivers and sea beaches.
